Letter Aa- Day 1&2

This week we started letter Aa. At her age, we are just mainly working on letter recognition. After we go through the whole alphabet, we will probably go back through each letter with a more phonics based program. But I think for a two year old, this is enough for now. We started each day off with our 'morning meeting' which includes prayer, song, talking about the letter of the week, reading a themed book, a bible story, and going over our memory verse. Then we jump into our 'school work' as J calls it.

Day 1

Book-

First we started off with tracing. This sheet is laminated and J used an Expo dry-erase marker. I printed this sheet from Confessions of a Homeschooler website (where I get most of my material). She did very well on the capital A but had a little trouble with the lowercase one. I had her to do it a couple times and she slowly started getting the hang of it.

Then we did A to a trace. I put this in her Crayola Dry-Erase board.

Apple color puzzle. She had to match the apple pieces by color.

Do-A-Dot pages

Aa is for Apple coloring/tracing page. She did pretty good on the big Aa, not so much on the smaller words...

The last thing we did on this day was Play-Doh mats. I just had her put play-doh on the letters. Very simple but she loved it.

Day 2

Book-

Another Do-A-Dot page

Aa is for Apple puzzle. She needed a little help on this one, but still did pretty good.

Color the Apples. I told her the color and she had to color it on that apple. She got some on her own because the words were colored.

Pre-Writing Practice. I laminated these cards and put them on a ring. She used an Expo marker to do them. She really enjoyed this and asked to do it several times today.

Apple Cut & Paste. Again, I cut the apples out for her and let her paste them onto the tree.

We took a break after most of her school work was finished and went to our local library's story time. While we were out, I stopped in Dollar Tree and picked up some small tote bags, fabric paint, and foam stamps.  We came home and made this craft. J has gotten into carrying pocket books with all her little toys in it.  Needless to say, it was a huge hit.
Then she got to do one all by herself.

Again. most of my pages were printed off 'Confessions of a Homeschooler' website. I want to make sure she gets the credit for all these printables. I love her page and she does awesome work.

Play Trays

I thought I'd give a quick overview of what 'play trays' are. This is just a cute little name for them that I thought of.  I got the trays at Dollar Tree for $1 a piece.

Each week, she gets 4 trays. I fill each one with different manipulative type of items/toys or at least semi-educational toys.  After she finishes her school work then it's play tray time. I keep them on the book shelf so she can get to them herself.

So... what's in the tray this week?

Tri-colored pasta, small cups, spoon, and small measuring cup. This is one of J's favorites. She uses the spoon and measuring cups to scoop and pour pasta into the little cups.

Pom-poms, bottle caps, and big tweezers. I have her pick up the pom-poms with the tweezers and put in the bottle cap. Helps build those little hand muscles which improves control when writing/coloring.

Magnet tray, alphabet magnets, and pom-pom magnets.

Infantino Puzzle

So that's what in the trays for this week. Each week, I'll put in new things so J stays interested.

Aa Schedule

Here's my schedule for the week. Again, none of this is set in stone. But this is an overall look at what we'll be doing this week.

CCBB Day 4

Today we finished up our unit on Chicka Chicka Boom Boom. I've had a great time with it and so has J. She gets so excited when I tell her it's time to do her 'school work'. She absolutely loves it. I know it won't be that way forever, so I'm just eating it up.

To start off the day we, once again, read Chicka Chicka Boom Boom.

Then we moved on to her coloring pages. She had two today, to finish up all the letters.

Next, we did a 'Build a tree' page. She had to match the shapes to the ones on the page. She did extremely well with this and got it right off the bat.

After that we moved on to the Chicka Chicka Boom Boom sort. She had to sort the coconut tree cards into big and little. She picked this up right away too and was finished in no time.

After this, I told her we were finished and she said she wanted to do more. So I got the CCBB Tot book back out and let her play with it a while.

After lunch we did our 'craft'. More of an edible craft I guess. You'll need one green apple, graham crackers, a few Cocoa Puffs, and you're supposed to have Alphabits cereal, but I couldn't find any anywhere.
Then just slice the apple (making leaves), lay down your graham crackers (tree trunk) and put a few Cocoa Puffs on (coconuts) and you have your self a coconut tree :) If you were lucky enough to find the Alphabits, just spread those around the tree.

And that concludes our week on Chicka Chicka Boom Boom. Next week, we will be moving into the actual letters starting with Aa.
